ADA Transition Plan Document

The Town contracted with WithersRavenel to conduct the ADA Self Evaluation and Transition Plan as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for public entities with at least 50 employees. The consultant presented the draft plan findings in October 2021 to cover the requirements for public outreach, identification of barriers, methods to remove barriers, specify a compliance schedule, and identify an ADA Coordinator and Administrator.

A physical facility assessment began in February 2021 that used the "ADA Checklist for Existing Facilities" to conduct an itemized assessment of interior and exterior requirements for publicly accessible facilities and sidewalks. A survey was provided to the public in March 2021 for public outreach to receive and review input on accessibility. The final review was of Town programs and policies to determine if any accessibility limitations would arise based on the nature or type of event or program.

The Plan identifies all deficiencies from the physical assessment and provides a schedule to guide the Town to address the deficiencies. The planned replacement of Town facilities provides the opportunity in the next five (5) years to address many of the the concerns. All new facilities, infrastructure, and programs will be designed to comply with the ADA, as amended at the time of construction that is applicable to the Town.
