Ribbon Cutting Celebrating New Walking Trail
Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 9 a.m., the Town of Wendell will celebrate the completion of the walking trail around the ballfield at Wendell Park, 601 West Third Street with a ribbon cutting.
The journey to improve and expand facilities at the Wendell Park began with a staff report to the Town Board in the fall of 2014. After receiving Board approval to proceed with a Parks and Recreation Trust Fund [PARTF] Grant Application, a public hearing was held on January 26, 2015, to discuss the scope of the project which included: multi-purpose field with irrigation and lights, playground, tot lot, paved walking trail around the ball fields, a paved parking lot, and a games court that would include a horse shoes pit and bocce court. The Town Board approved the scope of the project and for the submittal of the PARTF Grant application. On November 12, 2015, the Town of Wendell received notice that the Parks and Recreation Authority approved a matching grant in the amount of $250,000 from PARTF for the Wendell Park Improvements project.
Since approval of the PARTF Grant, the following improvements have been completed at Wendell Park:
- ADA Playground
- Paved parking lot near the volleyball court
- Drainage improvements between Jake May and Doug Proctor Fields
- Walking Trail
In addition to the walking path, nearing completion are the multi-purpose field with irrigation, lights and sod and the game courts – bocce and horse shoe pit.
Following the ribbon cutting, everyone is welcome to join us in walking on the new walking trail.
After the ribbon cutting and walk on the new trail, Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Polaski will be available to provide a tour of the Wendell Park PARTF project improvements.
