Community Programs & Resources

Community Policing is not a new idea. It is actually the foundation of a good police force. It is simply having a partnership between the citizens and police, in order to improve the quality of life in the town. This partnership requires input from both the community and its police.

The Wendell Police Department provides many services to the citizens of Wendell.  These services include:

Residential Security Checks- Prior to going out of town you can complete a house check form and provide it to us.  We will then be aware of the vacancy of your residence and provide security checks during your absence.

Residential Security Surveys - An officer will visit the home and evaluate the property from a security standpoint.  The officer will make recommendations for improvements in security and will note areas in which security concerns are being addressed appropriately.  They will also address ways to protect your valuables.

Business Security Surveys - Any business can contact the Wendell Police Department and request an officer to perform a Security Survey. It is a simple process that allows the business owner and the officer to evaluate the business facility from the outside in.  The officer will make recommendations for improvements in security and will note areas in which security concerns are being addressed appropriately. The officer is also available to speak with the employees of a business to discuss issues such as shoplifting, what to do is case of a robbery, fraudulent checks, etc.

Classes - The Wendell Police Department provides informational classes on crime related topics to any civic, school, or business organization. You tell us what your concerns are and we will present an informational class to your group on the subject of interest.

Camp Choices - Free camp provided by Wendell Police Department and a grant from the NC ABC Board for 1 week for kids age 9-12.

Community Watch Groups - Citizens unite together to prevent crime in their neighborhoods and to watch out for each other. The Community Watch groups take proactive steps to keep their neighborhood safe through programs that address home security issues, ID theft issues, telephone trees, block parties, etc. If you live in Wendell and would like to start a Community Watch Group call us at 919-365-4444.

Eastern Wake Crimestoppers - is an anonymous crime tip hot-line similar to those found around the world. If a tip regarding a crime comes in and the information leads to an arrest in a felony case, the anonymous caller receives a cash reward. Eastern Wake CrimeStoppers serves the towns of Knightdale, Rolesville, Wendell and Zebulon. This is a great tool in fighting crime in Eastern Wake County.

Public Safety Day- The Wendell Police Department presents a annual Public Safety Day the first Saturday in May in the downtown area on Campen Street and Depot Street, which is located just off of Main Street. Various Public Safety agencies are on hand to demonstrate a wide array of equipment and vehicles. There are exciting things for the whole family including free hot dogs, drinks and  inflatables for the kids.

There are of course many other programs that the Wendell Police Department offers to the citizens of Wendell. If you have any questions regarding the services that we provide or you have an idea of something that may benefit the entire town, feel free to give us a call.
