Accreditation
The Wendell Police Department received its initial Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) Accreditation Award on November 11, 2023, in Bellevue, Washington. The Wendell Police Department is already working towards its reaccreditation in 2027. The CALEA reaccreditation process is conducted at the end of each four-year review cycle, following a successful on-site assessment and hearing. As part of CALEA’s continued compliance, agencies complete annual Compliance Service Manager (CSM) Reviews.
The Law Enforcement Accreditation process focuses on standards that provide best practices related to life, health, and safety procedures for the agency. These standards are considered foundational for contemporary law enforcement agencies. The program provides the framework for addressing high risk issues within a contemporary environment, and ensures officers are prepared to meet basic community service expectations and prepared to manage critical events (SOURCE: CALEA).
CALEA maintains a public feedback access portal that is provided as an opportunity for members of the community to submit comments, commendations, and other information regarding an agency's compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status.
The link is not for filing complaints or specific officer commendations with the department, as the information submitted is sent to CALEA staff members and not the police department. CALEA is not an investigatory body, and the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes.
