Transportation Policies

The Town of Wendell Comprehensive Plan outlines the vision of the town’s future transportation system.  This vision was created and is regularly updated through the collaborative work of town staff, Wendell residents, the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), and Triangle Transit.  The town also coordinates plans for future corridors and transportation improvements with other agencies, such as the NC department of Environmental and Natural Resources and the US Army Corps of Engineers.  The goal of this process is to create an integrated multimodal transportation system that provides accessibility for all residents, employers, and services in a safe and efficient manner.

Proposed transportation improvements are identified in the Town of Wendell Collector Street Plan and are further informed by the CAMPO Thoroughfare Plan.  These improvements may be constructed and funded as a requirement of new development, or may be initiated by the Town or NCDOT.  Project priorities and funding components for transportation improvements partially or fully funded by the Town are identified in the town’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP).  Infrastructure improvement requirements are further outlined in Chapter 17 of the Town’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).
