Alternate Programs During COVID-19

Anthony Porter's Basketball Clinics 

Our number one goal at the clinic is to create an atmosphere in the gym that your child will want to return to year after year.  We are also focused on providing the proper fundamental skills that your child can use to become a better,  more polished basketball player!  Every Tuesday and Thursday for one month.  Session 1 begins in January, Session 2 Begins the in February. 

Fee:  $125 per participant  

We will be practicing safe COVID-19 protocol!  

*  Everyone is required to wear a mask
*  Temperature Checks at the Door upon entry
*  Hand sanitizer stations will be set up as you enter the gym
*  Anyone not feeling well must stay home to prevent the spread of any kind of illness

Ahada McCummings Volleyball Clinic 

The 8-16 year old girls volleyball clinics will be on Monday and Wednesdays for 4 weeks starting February 15th. 

  • The clinic will be lead by EWA varsity volleyball coach Ahada McCummings.  
  • Ages 8-10 will be 6:00 pm - 6:50 pm
  • Ages 11-12 will be 7:00 pm - 7:50 pm
  • Ages 13-16 will be 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm  
  • Fee is $45 for both resident and non-resident
  • Limit to first 10 registrations
  • Covid 19 protocols will be enforced. (mask must be worn, temperature checks at the door, if you are feeling bad then you stay home, limited spectators and they must social distance)

Tiny Sports Clinic  

Tiny Sports Clinic is for kids ages 3-5 years old as of Dec. 1, 2020. During the clinic, the kids will learn the basics of t-ball, soccer, volleyball, and track.  

All Sessions will be held inside the Wendell Community Center located at 601 W. Third St. in Wendell, NC. 

There will be Two Groups of 14 kids (total of 28).  Each group meet twice a week with the exception of Christmas week for a total of 7 meeting. (Only sign up for one group) 

Group One is Tuesday and Thursdays from 11:00 am - 11:45 am.  Starting December 1.
Group Two is Tuesday and Thursdays from 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm.  Starting December 1.  

Each group will have 14 participants.  

Registration is $15.00 for both resident and non-resident

Each child will receive a snack each day and a t-shirt for their participation.  

Covid-19 restrictions will apply.  Masks must be worn by any person 12 and older that enters the building and temperature checks are required upon entry.  Anyone not feeling well must stay home to prevent any chance of spreading an illness.  Bring your own water bottle!

Intro To Disc Golf

· Disc golf is a flying disc sport in which players throw a disc at a target; it is played using rules similar to golf. It is usually played on a course with 9 or 18 holes. Players complete a hole by throwing a disc from a tee area toward a target, throwing again from where the previous throw landed, until the target is reached. Usually, the number of throws a player uses to reach each target are tallied (often in relation to par), and players seek to complete each hole in the lowest number of total throws. This program will introduce beginners to the course and techniques needed to play disc golf.

o Registration is limited to 5 participants
o Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11 am in 2-week sessions

Wendell Wiffle

· Wendell Wiffle A.K.A. Wiffleball. We have some modified rules for Wiffleball in Wendell. 85 foot homerun area, all baserunners are ghost, single, double, triple and homerun area is marked on the field, strike zone for the batter will be located behind homeplate, pitchers are allowed to pitch 3innings, 5 innings per game, 3 outs per inning, walks (4 balls) and strike outs (3 strikes). Pickleball Challenge

· Pickleball Challenge is a fun entertaining way for Men and Women to play pickleball within a social atmosphere. Each player will be partnered with a different player and team to play for multiple rounds. Each round will be played to 11 scoring only when serving and teams must win by 2 points. Upon arrival, each participant will be given a number. This will be their number for the entire day. According to the schedule teams will be decided and play will begin. After each game to 11, scores will be recorded for that round. Then for round 2, a new partner and team will be assigned. We will record that score as well and then move on to round 3 and continue the above pattern. Pickleball Challenge will be a fast pace, full of continuous play, and socially entertaining game for all to enjoy. o Program Supervisor – Kelley Connolly

o Highly recommended that each player provides their own Pickleball Paddle. Pickleballs will be provided.

Nature Camp

· Nature Camp is an introduction to the outdoors. Kids will discover the park and what type of nature is in it. Identify Trees, Bugs, Animals, and camping.

Intro to Beach Volleyball: ·

Beach volleyball is a team sport played by two teams of two players on a sand court divided by a net. As in indoor volleyball, the objective of the game is to send the ball over the net and to ground it on the opponent's side of the court, and to prevent the same effort by the opponent.· Each team is allowed up to three touches to return the ball across the net, and individual players may not touch the ball twice consecutively except after making a block touch (the block touch counting as one touch, leaving only two more touches before the ball must be hit over). The ball is put in play with a serve—a hit by the server from behind the rear court boundary over the net to the opponents. The rally continues until the ball is grounded on the playing court, goes "out", or a fault is made in the attempt to return the ball.[1][2] The team that wins the rally scores a point and serves to start the following rally. The four players serve in the same sequence throughout the match, changing server each time a rally is won by the receiving team.

Tiny Basketball Clinic:

The Tiny Basketball Clinic is for kids ages 3-4 before September 1st.  The fee is $10 per child.  During this clinic kids will learn the basic fundamentals of basketball.  Dribbling, shooting, rebounding, and defense will be the focus. 

The clinic will be 45 minutes long.  There are two groups.  The first group is Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 am - 11:45 am.  The Second group is on Wednesday and Friday from 11:00 am - 11:45 am.   
The clinic will start September 8th and end September 25th
The clinic is for 7 kids per group, boys or girls.  
All kids will receive a basketball for their participation.

Kids will be asked to social distance while learning the fundamentals.  Temperature checks and hand sanitizer applications will be done daily before practice.  All kids will need to bring their own water bottles.  Each kid will only use his or her basketball that will be provided at the beginning of the first practice.  Parents will not be allowed in the gym.
