A Message from the Police Department

Welcome to the Wendell Police Department Web Site! The police department has a staff of highly dedicated and motivated personnel consisting of 19 sworn officers and 1 civilian dispatchers. The local dispatch can be reached Monday thru Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except for holidays, by dialing the number for the Town Hall, 919-365-4444. A dispatcher will answer and direct your call if it is for another service the Town provides such as parks and recreation, water services, planning and zoning, etc. If the call is for police or other emergency services, they will ask you for some information and dispatch the appropriate personnel. If the local number (919-365-4444) is dialed after hours , or on holidays, the call is automatically forwarded to the 911 center in Raleigh. The call is answered there and dispatched to our officer. As in many other areas, 911 service is available. If 911 is dialed, the call goes directly to the communications center in Raleigh where the appropriate emergency service can be dispatched.

The police department operates under a philosophy of community oriented policing. We want and desire the input from the community. Yes we want to hear about the problems, but also we ask you to contribute any ideas for solving the problem. We realize that we do not have all the answers. A community that works together, such as ours, will maintain a low crime rate because everyone is interested and has a stake at what happens in their community.

We offer a number of crime prevention services and various seminars that are of interest to the public. Our officers are available to talk to civic groups. We desire input from the community, and we must be willing to be active in the community. We also provide all the traditional law enforcement functions that other departments provide such as requests for police services, investigations, and traffic control.

It is the goal of the Wendell Police Department to maintain a safe and crime free neighborhood as reasonably possible. I invite you, on behalf of the police department, to stop by and meet with us to discuss any concerns you may have.
