Water Rate Increase
At its June 14, 2011 meeting, the Wendell Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to increase the town's water rates (as of July 1, 2010) by 9.5% as well as the Development Fees.  The fee increase was necessary due to water and sewer revenues not meeting projections as a result of several factors, including conservation measures, failure to meet anticipated population projections, the unanticipated increase in Raleigh's rates and the increased cost of maintaining the existing utility system. The Town Board is continuing to be proactive in working with the City of Raleigh to circumvent problems in the years to come. The Town Board hopes addressing the issue quickly will help prevent the institution of a rate surcharge on Wendell customers by the City of Raleigh in the future.
