TOWN OF WENDELL PREPARED FOR HURRICANE FLORENCE
The Town of Wendell is asking citizens to finalize preparations for the inclement weather that will be upon us and may include possible high winds and localized flooding. As Hurricane Florence may take out power, you are encouraged to charge up your phones and other devices so that you may receive local news updates on Hurricane Florence.
Programs and events at Wendell Parks and Recreation are canceled Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 5 p.m. The Town’s goal during this event is the safety of our patrons and staff! The Wendell Community Center may re-open Monday, September 17th, conditions permitting.
For the safety of our residents and employees, Town Hall will be closed Friday, September 14, 2018.
Town of Wendell staff have prepared for Hurricane Florence. Equipment and vehicles will deploy as soon as it is safe to be out to help! Town of Wendell Public Works will cut and push downed trees to the side of the streets to ensure a passable road network. The primary focus will be opening Wendell Boulevard and Wendell Falls Parkway followed by streets leading to public services – police, fire, EMS and Town of Wendell facilities.

Ahead of Hurricane Florence, transit agencies suspend bus service starting Thursday afternoon, all day Friday. Riders may sign up for alerts and check service notices at https://gotriangle.org. Presently, Waste Industries is monitoring Hurricane Florence. For the safety of the communities and the drivers, Waste Industries has suspended pick up on Friday, September 14th and is on one-day delay. Service for Town of Wendell is anticipated next week on Tuesday, September 18th, conditions permitting. Customers may visit the Waste Industries website for information at: https://wasteindustries.com/inclementweatheralert. If you are unable to access the online information, you may dial 919-662-7100 for an automated message on office closure and route suspensions.
