Wake County Floodplain Mapping Update Meeting
In August 2000, the State of North Carolina established the North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program (NCFMP), with a mandate to update the floodplain maps for all counties within the State of North Carolina. . As part of the NCFMP’s map maintenance process, Wake County received their Preliminary update to the County’s Flood Insurance Study (FIS) on March 31, 2015. Map maintenance revisions are based on community requested flood hazard data needs for specific streams. Communities affected by revisions are provided a web link to the NCFMP’s new webpage (http://rfris.nc.gov/fris/) for the updated flood hazard data.
A public meeting will be held at the Wake Forest Town Hall (301 S. Brooks Street, Wake Forest, NC 27587) on October 8th from 6 - 8 pm to provide the public opportunity to view changes to the floodplain maps and ask questions. A Town of Wendell staff member will be present to assist Wendell residents interested in the proposed map updates. Questions about the floodplain mapping updates may also be directed to John Gerber, State NFIP Coordinator with the North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program at (919) 825-2317.
