2014 Ice Carving at the Town Square

The Town of Wendell will feature an Ice Carving exhibit on Friday, December 5th, 2014 at 5:00 pm in the Town Square.  Master Sergeant Travis Jones will be the featured carver. Travis began ice carving in 2004 as an apprentice.  Travis carved for a apprentice for a year and then attended formal ice carving classes in San Diego.  Travis studied ice carving under the tutelage of Mark Donavan. In the next 4 years, Travis spent one week a year with Mark Donovan to gain more experience and prepare himself for competitions.  Travis has worked to perfect his technique, structure, fusing, and presentation and has received 15 top ranking medals to become recognized as one of the best ice carvers in the military.  He was named "Best in Show" for 2011-2012.  In his spare time, Travis teaches ice carving classes and serves as a supply sergeant for the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.  Travis is a lead carver for the USASOC 2014 Ice Carving Team and enjoys crafting sculptures for people to enjoy.  Travis' Wendell Sculpture will highlight this year's theme, "An Evening Santa".  Come out to the Town Square on Friday, December 5th @ 5:00 pm to see what Travis will be creating for the people of Wendell to enjoy.
