Wendell Blue 7-8 is our District 6 Champions. The Championship game was very exciting and close. They won their game in the bottom of the 8th inning. Here is a small re-cap to the last inning: Wendell Blue was down 11-10 to Rocky Mount going into the bottom of the 8th innings. The first 2 batters were unable to reach 1st safely. With 2 outs on the board, the next batter Brett Fuller smacks a double. Giving the team a glimpse of hope. Then Drew Lanphere hits a shot to the second baseman for Rocky Mount. He fields it and rushes his throw because the speeding Lanphere was hustling down the line. The throw was high and the first baseman could not bring it down. Brett Fuller scores from 2nd tying the game at 11-11. After the dust settled Drew ended up on 3rd base. With 2 outs and winning run on 3rd base, Wendell Blue's slugger, Dean Wall steps to the plate. With great expectations, Dean Wall sends a shot to the fence. From the sidelines everyone thought the ball went over the fence, but it barely stayed in the park. Wall hits in the winning run and Lanphere crosses the plate for Wendell Blue to win the game. Dean Wall also hit his "first ever", over the fence, home run during this Tournament. Both Wendell Blue, Wendell White and Rocky Mount will be playing in Williamston for the Tar Heel State Championship July 25-28.
Wendell Blue 13-14 is also District 6 Champions. They played 4 games and went undefeated through the Tournament. They did the same thing in the Smithfield SJBA Invitational - playing 3 games.
