- What is my property zoned?
To determine your property's zoning designation, click on the link to access Wake County's IMAPs GIS. Then click on address and enter the parcel address, and it will provide your parcel information. To find zoning information, select county zoning, located below the map in the center of the page. You must then select Wendell on the right side of the page. The zoning designation will then be displayed. A listing of the zoning designations and their definitions are available in the town's ordinances, found on this website. A current zoning map is kept on file in the Planning Department.
- Can my property be rezoned?
Yes. Any individual can request for any property to be rezoned. The application is available on this website under the forms page. The cost of the request is $750. The Board of Commissioners ultimately decides whether or not the property will be rezoned.
- Am I allowed to have a yard sale sign?
Yard sale, real estate, and special event signs are allowed from 4 p.m. on the Friday prior to the event until 7 p.m. the Sunday after the event. However, signs signs are not permitted to be placed on any public sign pole, telephone pole, power pole, or within the public right-of-way. Signs should not be placed in another person's yard without their permission.
- When do I need a building permit?
A building permit is required when a new structure meets any one of the following conditions:
- If the structure will exceed 144 square feet.
- If any dimension of the structure is 12 feet or longer.
- If the cost of the stucture exceeds $5,000.
- If what you are building is an addition to an existing structure (Including decks).
* New for 2010* - Replacement windows and swimming pools over 24 inches deep now require a permit.

- Do I need a privilege license to own, operate or open a business in Wendell?
Yes. A privilege license is required if you own, operate, or open a business within the corporate limits of Wendell. For a business to be eligible for a privilege license, it must be an allowable use for its zoning district, and if necessary, the Wake County Fire Marshal must approve the Change of Use.
Even if the business is not physically located within the Town limits but business is conducted in town, a privilege license is required.

- Can the Town print a map of my property?
Yes, the Town does provide maps to citizens and non-citizens for a fee.
- Does the Town have a Code Enforcement Policy?
Yes, the Town perform code enforcement once a week. Some of the typical Ordinances that are enforced include:
- Tall Grass.
- Disabled Vehicle Storage.
- White Goods Storage.
- Debris in Yard.
- Trash Container Placement.
- Do I have to get a permit to put up a sign at my business?
Yes, all signs in town require a permit. The cost of a permit is $65. The permit application is available on the Forms page of this website and shall be submitted to the Planning Department for approval. Depending on the type of sign, a building permit may also be required. Please consult with Planning Staff concerning these requirements.
